Foundation

The Walter E. Olson Memorial Library Foundation was formed in 1992 with the purpose of raising funds to be used by the Library to improve the physical building, the quantity and quality of learning materials available to the public, and the purchase of equipment to allow staff to serve and public to utilize the resources of the Walter E. Olson Memorial Library.

Since its inception the Foundation has provided funds to purchase a number of items for the Library including shelving, lighting upgrades, computers, bar code readers and funds to help provide a high speed connection to the other libraries in the Northern Waters region.

In addition, the Foundation has built up a reserve fund to aid in an expansion of the Library and considers this a most important objective in the near future.

The Foundation hosts two events during each year beginning with a Golf Classic in early June that has become a major source of funds for the Foundation. This event is supported by many local businesses and individuals as well as by the golfers who enjoy playing the Eagle River course for fun and prizes. In October the Foundation hosts a Library Celebration dinner that recognizes the contributions of the Library staff and the many volunteers who assist the staff in serving the library patrons.

The current board members of the Foundation are Roger Rieckman President, Phil Jensen Vice President, Fred Prange Treasurer, Nancy Schaffer Secretary, and members Dar Kadulski, Deb Obrodovich, Eunice Rubin, Nancy Schuller and JoAnn Krusick. Per Article III item 4 of the Foundation bylaws: Anyone who supports the Foundation by means of participation or contribution will be considered a member of the Foundation.
