From August 22, 2017 1:30 pm until August 22, 2017 3:30 pmAt Walter E. Olson Memorial Library-Ministry location Categories: adult events, young adult event, Children's eventTuesday August 22nd, from 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. Todd Wilfer, beekeeper and NPMS science teacher, will present Here's the Buzz--Take a closer look at Bees. Have you ever wondered what bees are up to inside their hives? Come to the Library and check out the portable, visible hive brought to us by Todd Wilfer. Todd will present a program telling us about bees, their activities and their importance in our world. If we are lucky, we'll see the queen in the section of hive that comes to the library. Todd will field any questions we may have. Unless it is raining, we plan to set up our program in the grassy area just outside the side entrance to the upper Ministry location so the bees will be shaded and cool. The Plexiglas walls will allow us to observe activities without disturbing the bees. This event is open to ALL INTERESTED PERSONS. Kids 10 and under should bring an adult with them.
From August 24, 2017 5:00 pm until August 24, 2017 6:30 pmAt Walter E.Olson Memorial Library-Ministry location Categories: Adult events, young adult event, Children's eventFrom 5:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., we will have a Celebrate Reading! Family potluck supper and Chinese auction. Come to the library with a dish to pass. We’ll supply a drink, plates, utensils, napkins, cake and ice cream. We ask you to bring a white elephant “prize” and we will have drawings for these prizes. Everyone will get slips of paper to use in "bidding" on the various items [i.e., putting them into a paper cup in front of the item you want to win].We will draw also for prizes for the reading programs. Bring chairs if you can. We hope to have this event outdoors under the front entry's canopy.
From August 25, 2017 10:00 am until August 25, 2017 11:00 amAt Walter E.Olson Memorial Library-Ministry location Categories: adult events, young adult event, children's eventsOur STEAM Friday involves trying to use the Discovery Drone owned by the library. John Stepka, a local pilot, will be here to talk about flying and to help us operate the drone. Can we get the drone to land inside a circle formed by a hula hoop? Can we make it go up and down? What else can we do? We will be trying to use the lower parking lot outside the lower level of the library if it is a nice day. If it rains, we will try to use the drone in the hallway leading into the lower level. We will also try making paper airplanes and see if they can fly. (Science, technology, engineering, art & Mathematics = STEAM)
