Donate Funds

The Walter Olson Memorial Library Foundation is a nonprofit corporation dedicated to raising money for the Olson Memorial Library.  It also includes the Walter Olson Friends of the Library (W.O.L.F).

Your gift to the Walter E. Olson Memorial Library Foundation helps the Library serve the community above and beyond what tax-based funding provides. Thanks to donations from individuals, businesses and foundations, the Library can provide more and better:

  • Books and other items
  • Technology resources, including free public access to computers and the Internet
  • Services for those with special needs
  • Programming for children, teens, and adults

The goal of the Foundation is to augment the Library as a learning and information resource for the citizenry of Eagle River and surrounding townships above and beyond the financial support provided by annual tax revenues.  In that regard, the Foundation seeks gifts and donations of money, books and valuable collections, endowments, funds and properties to benefit the Library, and conduct fund raising events.

The Foundation's major fund raising event is the annual WEOM Library Golf Outing held at the Eagle River Golf Course.  Other monies come from private donations and groups.  The Friends also help to raise monies from book sales throughout the year.

The Foundation and Friends sponsor an annual Recognition Dinner for the Library staff and volunteers in the fall.  A speaker is always featured at these well-attended events.

Presently the Foundation is involved in the "Right Before Your Eyes" Capital Campaign.  It's purpose is to raise $3.26 million dollars to build a new library facility.  Go to The Olson Memorial Library Foundation website to learn more about this worthy endeavor.

Volunteers are important partners in the Library's mission to provide patrons with knowledge and information that support lifelong learning. The Library is fortunate to have over 30 volunteers providing assistance with services for patrons, hosting community events and maintaining attractive collections.

The Olson Memorial Library occasionally has volunteer opportunities for interested community members.  Examples of volunteer projects include:

  • Circulation desk--checking books in and out, entering new patrons
  • Shelving books and other materials
  • Preparing books and other materials for the shelves--applying book protection covers, CD and DVD protectors, affixing labels
  • Repairing books
  • Searching for and preparing books and other materials for Interlibrary Loan delivery and/or for hold shelf when received
  • Calling patrons when Interlibrary Loan materials have been received
  • Helping in our childrens' department
  • Correspondence to donors

If you would be interested in volunteering at the library, please read our volunteer policy, and then print, complete, and return the Volunteer Application and Background Check Form.  Your application will be kept on file, and Mickee Stuckemeyer, Volunteer Coordinator will contact you if we have a project we feel you would be suited for.  If further information is needed, just call us at 479-8070.

Our 2016 Volunteer of the Year is Betty Jo Trinrud.  Shirley is an extraordinary volunteer at the Olson Memorial Library; she truly does make a difference and is completely dedicated to all the tasks she performs. You will see her working at our Circulation Desk. She is enthused about any task we ask her to do and brings the absolutely warmest smile to everyone she comes in contact with.  We are extremely proud to claim Betty Jo as our volunteer.  CONGRATULATIONS Betty Jo!

Donate Books/Materials or Become a Member

A great way to support our Library and clean-up your home or office bookshelves is to donate your used materials to the Friends of Walter E. Olson Memorial Library. The Friends will re-sell your donations at their Book Sales in March, July and Sept/Oct during Cranberry Fest. Proceeds from the Walter Olson Library Friends (W.O.L.F) sales help sponsor Library projects, furnishings, equipment and activities not covered by the Library's operating budget.

Plus, you can become a member of this grassroots organization dedicated to promoting Olson Library, an essential institution of our community.  Volunteers help with book sales and other events, and have brought their talents into Olson Memorial Library as shelvers, circulation assistants, correspondents, and decorators.  The Friends are an integral part of the library's life.

Dues: $10.00 per year
