Get a Library Card

Getting a library card is quick and easy.  Bring in your driver's license or a valid I.D. along with your local address and we can issue you a card within minutes.   Your card is good at the 30 libraries in the Northern Waters Library System. Children under the age of 14 are required to have a parent/guardian signature on their application form.

Standard Public Access Computers

The library has 6 internet access computers, as well as three laptops available for public use in the library.  Your login ID is your library card number (with no spaces) and there is no password needed in the birthdate field.  A library card or temporary pass is required to use the public computers or laptops.  Patrons over the age of 18 who do not hold a library card and who are just "passing through" the area may request a temporary card from library staff.  Our complete internet policy is available here,  on our computers, or in paper form at the circulation desk.  All computers, utilize Microsoft Windows 7 with the additional installed applications:

VHS to DVD Transfer Staion

Toshiba DVR620

INSIDE THE TINKERSTUDIO

VHS videotapes degrade over time and there’s little to stop it.  It's easy to copy your VHS tapes to DVD using our Toshiba DVR620 DVD Recorder.  Our self-service Transfer Station will easily make digital copies of your personal VHS recordings.

Bring your own blank, recordable DVD disc (-R) and your VHS tape, follow the steps posted in our TinkerStudio, and create a digital copy ready for playback in any standard DVD player.

Blank DVDs can also be purchased at the Library for $1. The Transfer Station is available on a first-come, first-serve basis.  Great memories are meant to be shared, so stop in today!

The machine copies in real time plus additional time for digitizing or burning to DVD; allow at least a couple of hours to convert one tape. This equipment is offered thanks to a 2015 grant from the Institute of Museum & Library Service (IMLS).

NOTE: You must own the copyrights on your recordings in order to transfer them in accordance with Title 17 of the US Code and the DMCA. Please do not bring commercial purchases or releases recordings.
