    Summer library program 2014


Sign up for programs in the kids’ department display on the low book shelves. *Get a time log sheet, read 10 hours, list your favorite book and author of those you read, turn it in and get a Pizza Hut personal pan pizza certificate. Repeat and have fun reading.   Certificates are good until 9-30-2014. 

**Parents: please sign permission slips for photos and for off-premises events.


Read with Max –Quincy’s friend and collect paw prints for each time.  Sign up for a 10 minute session. Read any book of your choice. Earn a Culver’s Frozen Custard certificate for 3 paw prints!

Story Hours for younger Kids


We do a short story hour every Wednesday morning from 10:30 a.m. to 11:15 a.m. for small kids.  We read several stories, do a wiggler activity or song, and a small craft.  An adult should accompany the child.


Battle of the books readers


The list of books for the 201-2015 season is in the Kids’ Department along with most of the books on the list.  Get a head start on the reading. 


  Origami –Legos-craft sessions

 Teen volunteers are in the Kids’ area on Saturday afternoons from 1:00 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. Come and learn origami, make friendship bracelets, create with Legos. Kids 8 and under, please bring an adult with you.

Deer Scarerswith Jasmyn Schmidt-the Garden Lady:  Hate to share your garden or plantings with the deer??  Come and discover how to make things that will keep them away from your treasures!  Kids 8 and under must be accompanied by an adult.


**Monday July 7th  1:30 p.m. - 2:30 p.m.

Critter catching at silver lake
Come to the western edge of Silver Lake Beach and meet with Laura f Trees for Tomorrow to learn how to catch and identify critters living in the lake.  Learn about them and check the health of Silver Lake based on these critters.  Limit 25 kids.  Kids 10 and under must be accompanied by an adult.

Professor marvel’s fizz, bang, boom science & magic showersis a fully themed show featuring a colorful backdrop, special costumes, interactive theatre (with lots of audience participation), story-telling, comedy, and magic aimed at helping kids discover the rewards found within the pages of a book. After all, inspiring books deserve an inspiring show.

Spark a Reaction with JenniferNickel!Jennifer will present an exciting series of chemistry experiments that fizz, bang, and boom.  Learn how to repeat them at home.

Dr. Seuss and the players’ theater
with Carol Meadows and JoAnn Gelling.  Have fun with fellow actors and Dr. Seuss’ book MY MANY COLORED DAYS.  For ages 4 and older.  Parents and others, please return at 11:30 a.m. for the performance.  Spectators of all ages are welcomed.

Trees, leaves and leaf painting
Come to Trees for Tomorrow(519 Sheridan St.) and learn about the trees on campus.  Bring a cotton t-shirt (new or old) with you and make a painted leaf decoration on it.  Limited to 25 kids.  Those age 8 and under must be accompanied by an adult.

Kid Art
Come to Christ Lutheran School’s gym (at 201 N. 3rd Street).  Wear old clothes as it might get messy.  We have projects for younger kids and some for older kids, too.  Bring an old t-shirt and make a book bag.

Help make these pickles and learn how to make others from produce in your garden.


August events


**Monday August 4th  10:30 a.m.–11:30 a.m.

Clean boats, clean waters with Judy and Bob Ruch.  Hear a story, do a craft, make some music and a book.  Learn how and why this program works to help protect our beautiful waters.  Suitable for kids 4 and up. Kids 8 and under must be accompanied by an adult.

Robotics with Dave Koller
Dave has been having fun with robots and robotics for most of his life.  Come and hear of his experiences, see how he works with them and get some ideas of your own.  Dave worked on the Tommy Bartlett’s Robots in Wisconsin Dells.  See some of his projects.

Mike the turtle guy
Mike Korzinek will bring his turtles to the Children’s Area for a meet, greet and learn session.  Learn about turtles and tortoises.  Kids 8 and under must be with  an adult.

Astronomical adventures in the night sky with Frank Kovac, astronomer!
Come to Trees for Tomorrow’s Ed. Center at 519 Sheridan St.  We will look at the sun for sunspots using Frank’s Dobsonian telescope.  At 8:00, we will go inside for a presentation on the night sky.  At 9:00, we will then go outside for an hour of viewing.  Kids 14 and under must be accompanied by an adult.

Jasmyn Schmidt -Healthy snacks-a garden lesson
Come to the Kids’ Area and learn about healthy snacks. Prepare some with us and enjoy the goodness.  Get some recipes.

Jasmyn Schmidt -- Garden Salsa
Help us harvest our tub garden.  We will prepare salsa using these ingredients and have a salsa party to celebrate our harvest.

*Children's story hours are every Wednesday from 10:30 a.m. - 11:30 a.m.  Afterwards join us for a special craft or song. 
*We have teen volunteers who will be here Saturday from 1 - 2:30 p.m. Come and learn to do origami, make friendship bracelets or build with legos.

*Max the Listening Dog will be here every other Monday from 4 to 5 p.m beginning June 16.  He will be in the children's area with Corrine Lester, his owner and handler.  Quincy will listen to children read a book of their choosing.  The sessions last 10 minutes.  Call the library or stop in the children's area to sign up for a session.
