    Our Summer Library Program includes reading! Stop in at the library and get a reading log. This program is for kids ages birth to age 18. Read or listen to books for a total of 10 hours. Cross off the icons in the boxes to show your progress. Enter your name, age and phone number plus the title of your favorite of the books you read or hears during this period. Bring the completed form to the circulation desk. Get a free book from our donated stash. Get a Pizza Hut personal pan pizza certificate (good through September 15th) Enter your name in our drawing for month-end prizes. Have a great time reading all summer!

    Note The Northwoods Children's Museum offers a family adventure of discovery with changing exhibits, daily events, and drop-in activities. The pass admits 6 people to the museum. The Pass may only be checked out by an adult holding a valid Eagle River library card (fines less than $10.00). Pass may be checked out for a 3 day loan (pickup after 3 pm day before, usage day, return by 11 am following day). Friday pickups are returned on Monday. NON-RENEWABLE. Late fee is $10.00 per day. Pickup time is anytime after 11am; return time is anytime before 11am. To reserve a pass, call the Library: 715.479.8070. For Museum information call: 715.479.4623. Museum hours of operation are: Monday - Saturday 10am - 5pm; Sunday Noon - 5pm. The Northwoods Children's Museum is located at 346 W Division St Eagle River, WI 54521.

    We have a LEGO vintage VW bus under construction in the adult section of the library. Any interested patron aged 12 or older is invited to sit at the table and work on it where the last person left off. We have a detailed construction booklet to guide us.

    Sign up at the library to play one of the 6 characters in this game. Here is the plot: It is 1937 and you have been invited to wine and dine at the luxurious Chateau Deux Chevaux, home of one of France's finest vineyards. But the promise of a sparkling evening is shattered when you discover that your host, Anthony Burgess-Blunt,has been found dead in one of his own wine-vats. One - or more - of the guests gathered around the table is responsible for his death. All have their own secrets and motives, but which one of you fermented the plot. It's up to you to find out... The guests are: MARIE DE CHEVAL - Married to the murdered man, she inherits the fine Chateau that has been in the family for generations. MAURICE DE CHEVAL - Marie's brother is a brilliant scientist working on a secret project for the government. ORSON WHALES - The enfant terrible of Hollywood is in France researching his new film, to be entitled A Vintage Murder MARLENE DEEPDITCH - A wine merchant from Berlin she has long been a key business associate of the murdered man. PHIL QUIMBY- A wine merchant supplying an exclusive English clientele. PHIPPE PETROMANE - The estate manager at Chateau Deux Chevaux, he has been with the family since he was orphaned in the Great war. JILLY GOOLEY - A young Australian wine writer - her ambition is to become a top journalist and press baron. WALLIS SIMPER - Bought up in South Africa, recently moved her interior design business to Paris and has been renovating the Chateau. Each character gets his or her own role book. Costumes are suggested but not required. Light refreshments will be served.

    On Thursday August 16th, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 a.m., come to the Kids’ Area and work on LEGO Creations. This week, we will ask kids to make a land creature using 20 LEGOs or less. We will take photos of each creature and display on the tri-fold boards. How creative can you get? Name your creature and tell a story about it: does it have special powers?

    On Friday August 17th, from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m., we will have STEAM Friday activities. Our theme will be Musical Instruments and making music. We will make music with glasses and water levels, stringed cake pans, shakers, rain sticks and other materials. We will also make cardboard guitars and do a bit of “air guitar” playing in a talent show.. Kids age 12 and younger need an adult with them to share the fun.

    In addition to our other games and crafts, from 1:00 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. on Saturdays, Aeris will be available to help you draw animals--real or mythical. Come to the Community Room with your ideas and any of your favorite drawing materials. We have some drawing paper, crayons, markers and colored pencils available to use as well. Aeris will be available to help you on Saturdays until September 1st. If you wish,. we can display them on the tri-fold easels in the Kids' Area.

    Did you receive a FREE calendula plant for your garden in early June from the Olson Seed Library? Collect some petals, if you have any, and bring them along. Learn to make salve and about other medicinal uses of calendula. This workshop is lead by Sandy Roelle of MountainDreamz; Tuesday from 10am to noon. All costs for this event are paid by our Friends of the Library, W.O.L.F. Please call to pre-register.

    The Walter E. Olson Memorial Library welcomes local author and musician, Tom Palmer, for an author signing. Tom will have his benefit concert CDs and his book, Fly in Formation: One Professional Athletes' Journey, Dreams and Bi-polar Battle, available to sign for a goodwill donation. All proceeds go to The Rock Mission Center located in Eagle River.
